Way better choices out there June 20, 2010 Ehssane Abbasbhai (Montreal, Qc, Canada) I was looking for a good not too expensive Inear headphone that i could pair with my Ipod for my daily subway ride to work. Something i could just roll over the ipod and put in my pocket when not used. I'm sorry to have listen to all you people who rated this product 4 or 5 stars... The sound of these is far from being stellar, the bass is quite good, but the mids are really not that well define and the highs are really bright, distorded and fatiguing. Another minus is the confort and fitting, they don't stay in the ear securely(tried all the 3 sizes), they keep sliding slowly but surely out of the ear while walking. The confort is not that great. After 1 and a half year of normal use, the left ear stopped working completely. I really take great care of my electronics but it didn't make a difference. I though for the price and the great reviews they had, it was a good and safe buy, but boy was i wrong. Don't waste this 50$, just get the NuForce N6 that are a world apart soundwise and confortwise compare to these. Anyway, i just tough that i warned you guys because i don't thing people who rated these so high have any clue. Any Sennheiser InEar(tried Cx-300 and MM50) also are a very good alternative, i really like them, they sound really great and detailed and the confort also is very good, perfect seal. Sennheiser also have new models coming out, CX280 is around 50$. I also have Koss PortaPro at home, use to have grado 60 and Sennheiser HD565. Hope this helps!
Convenient and secure April 5, 2010 Joseph Mckenna (Washington, DC, USA) These earbuds are my second pair (left the first set on an airplane). I love the secure feeling in my ears. The sound is good; and the separating extension part of the cord is fantastic for use with an armband MP3 player.
Didn't work well for me February 21, 2010 number guy After doing too much research I bought this pair to replace my Koss. I absolutely wanted a y-cord and not an unequal length cord (that my Koss buds have). Too bad for me, these Sony were lacking bass. I don't want insane base, but "non-existant" bass doesn't work for me. The treble was good, but for me high treble gives me a headache. I returned these and went back to my annoying cord, but great sounding Koss.
Great fit, good sound, nice price, but need some improvement February 2, 2010 Target gal (Brooklyn, NY) I previously owned the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones, White (Fontopia) which were about $50 when I bought them a few years ago. They had a cord with a much longer cord to the right ear and a longer cord in general. They were a great fit but the ear buds came off very easily while in my bag or when I would pull them out of my ear quickly. I was lucky enough to find them several times, then I wasn't. I also zipped them in my backpack zipper and frayed the cord. I was looking for something similar but a little less pricey. I have very tiny ear canals and cannot wear the iPod ear buds because they hurt my ears and then fall out. The MDR-EX51LP were a very comfortable fit in my ears but the MDR-EX76 was the upgrade and cheaper so I went with them. The MDR-EX51LP also seemed a little more stout at the actual ear pieces and easier to put in and out.
Pros: The silicone ear buds seem to lock on better and don't come off nearly as easily. They still fit me well. They come with 3 sizes of ear buds but no place to store the extras. The carrying case is nice, however there's a catch (see below). There is a piece to wrap the excess cord around if you are using the extension (again, see below). Sound is good, but I'm not a techie. I don't hear outside noise and don't need much volume to have a good sound. Price is right at $25.
Cons: I don't really like the Y-shape of the cord because the wire is split down the length of the shorter cord and the ear buds can get tangled if not in the storage case. The short length is meant to be for use with an arm band but with an iPod it is too short to even use with the iPod in your shirt pocket. The carrying case doesn't work if you are using the extension (which you will always be using) and want to use the little piece to wrap up the extra cord and so you have nowhere to put that piece. You basically have to choose whether you want to use the carrying case and have the cord be extra long or whether you want the cord more manageable in length with the little spool they provide but then you can't use the spool and the carrying case; you have to choose.
I will continue to use the extension 100% of the time and also the piece to wrap the excess cord which means I'll have to do without the carrying case. I'll just hope the headphones don't get dirty and that the ear buds continue to stay securely affixed to the headphones.
Great low cost headphones December 13, 2009 D. Goldstein (NY, NY) Great headphones for the money. I love the two part cord. Perfect for use with after market iphone mics and people that hate long cords. They are a little flat, which is actually more accurate sounds, but most people are used to very bass heavy headphones. Wish they blocked a little more outside sound.
