Great earphones, with a catch July 27, 2010 Fat Pigs Fly (Arcadia, CA) It's a $400 earphone so realistically if you were expecting something at this price range to not sound good, you'd be nuts. As pointed out by numerous audiophile websites these earphones are pretty fantastic. I don't know (or sometimes even understand) the lingo, language, and anything associated with audiophile speak but its worth pointing out something that's also pretty well known - the cables suck.
The cables suck but due to Logitech's speedy customer service, I'll give it a 5 (returned earphones with cable, shipped a brand new one - received within a week).
Unfortunately, recabling these VIs are pretty hard since most alternative cables don't actually come with the microphone. If I didn't want the mic, I wouldn't have bought this version.
5 Star July 21, 2010 Louann Stokes (Cape Girardeau, MO USA) Item stolen from my doorstep. Amazon sent replacement item next day. WOW! Possible problem with product, possible wire shorting out. Don't know what to do for service.
Prefer over Shure SE530PTH after 6 months of use July 5, 2010 Abcman (Suburbia, California USA) I listen to a fair amount of classical music and value tonal fidelity, transient response, and tranparency. Although I generally prefer circumaural headphones, for travel and use with an iPod, I started with Shure SE3c's and moved up to the Shure SE530PTH Shure SE530PTH Sound Isolating Earphones with Push-To-Hear Control because of their superior (yet still tight) bass response and triple driver construction, which yielded better overall sound to my ears. The Shures were my IEM's of choice until Amazon ran a special on the UE TripleFi10 that I just couldn't pass up. I've had them for six months now and can safely say that they are now my IEM's of choice, both edging the Shures in sound quality and leaprfrogging them in terms of fit and comfort for long-term listening. Even with the optional sleeves, I couldn't get the Shures to remain snugly fit in my canals; the UE's stay in comfortably for the duration of a cross-country airplane flight and provide superior sound isolation for my ear canal anatomy. The UE sound is open, transparent, natural, and free of edginess. Even at an equivalent price, the UE TripleFi10's would be my transducer of choice; the fact that the economics are significantly in favor of the UE's is simply icing.
great phones, but handle carefully June 24, 2010 Z. Liang These earphones are absolutely top notch if you're big on sound. The bass is distinctive and unmuddled, the treble is clear and detailed. They sound fantastic for all sorts of music, from classical to death metal, and have a very well-balanced sound compared to most other earphones I've tried. It does take a few days for these to break in--when I first got these, I wasn't sure there was any audible difference between these and my old workhorse Sennheiser CX300s. Now I cringe whenever I have to go back to the Senns. The cable loops over the ears from the front, which, while initially awkward, helps reduce the cable noise that's inherent to all in-ears.
The only real downside to these phones is the potentially fragile design. The cable is very thin and the segment directly connecting to the buds are reinforced underneath with some semi-flexible metal that you can bend to contour to your ears as they loop over them. I can definitely see how someone can easily damage this part. I myself haven't had any issues yet, but I'm fairly careful with my phones and never take them out the case (which is great by the way) unless I'm using them, and I never use them when I'm doing anything that requires a lot of physical movement. These are definitely not earphones you want accidentally yanked out of your ears when something snags the cable.
Bottom line is, if you love great sound, if you're careful with your expensive electronics, and if you have a backup pair of phones you can put on when you're jogging or or mowing the lawn or whatever, these earphones are for you.
these things ROCK! June 24, 2010 Darrell Lee I love these earphones. I am impressed with the clarity and quality of the sound. I often steal away time and go listen to some of my favorite songs to hear them as they were meant to be heard!
I did have a problem with the contruction of the base and it broke. Logitech replace them and the turnaround time was less than 5 days. No questions asked! I still aspire to a pair of shure SCL5's but the price was right for these and I don't think I am missing too much based on the reviews I've seen.
Would I buy these again... you bet!
