A really good deal June 2, 2010 Paul Larson (Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota USA) I have had two pairs of Etymotic ER6i earbuds that died after 18 months of daily use, i.e., out of warranty. They were excellent and had a transparency that I loved, but they were expensive. I tried these and am very pleased. Soundwise they are good. Good tight bass and ok high end, that I must compensate for with eq. BUT overall they are better than many Sony's, Ear Candy and Bose, though not as good as the ER6i. Sound isolation is also pretty good once you figure out how to screw them into you ears, but not absolute like the ER6i, probably not enough isolation for listening on an airplane. They are very comfortable. Now to the bottom line, price. What a deal! Yes I like the ER6i, but not at 3 times the price. Not quite audiophile quality sound but close enough , isolation good enough for most purposes and better than electronic compensation, non microphonic cord, and are the most comfortable of any earbuds I have ever tried, that I wouldn't pay any more. BUT, make sure you have tried the various sized adapters and fool with them until you get a good seal.
I'm not loving these April 5, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Unlike most of the reviewers here, I'm lukewarm on these earbuds.
When I ordered these earbuds, I didn't understand that they have a peculiar shape that, if it doesn't require you to use a special procedure to put them on, at least encourages you to do so. The procedure is to loop the wire over your ear before inserting the earbud into the canal of your ear. The wire feels annoying at first, though that annoyance goes away after a few minutes. In addition, unlike the Apple earbuds, these don't just rest inside the ear lobe. You have to squish them into your ear canal. This seals out other noise, but if you don't like the kind of earbuds that are squished into the ear canal, look elsewhere.
I don't know but it may be that one bud is designed to go into the right ear and the other is designed to go into the left ear. In any event, I find that these earbuds require a lot more fiddling with to get to sit correctly in my ear. If their not seeming to fit, I take them out and switch ears and then it seems to work better. Even with all that, it's not uncommon for one of the earbuds to work its way out during a long walk. I tried all three different sizes of rubber skirts. If it weren't for the amount of fiddling with the buds to get them seated and to feel right, I would give this product five stars. Obviously, body sizes and parts differ from person to person so you mileage may vary, as the saying goes.
The sound quality is very good, but since I listen mostly to the spoken word (podcasts and foreign language practice), I can't say more than "very good."
Because the earbuds come with thin rubber skirts that seal the ear, they block out some of the outside noise. Contrary to what I infer from some of the other reviews, they don't block out all outside noise (which would be physiologically impossible because sound also travels through bone), but they do attenuate the outside noise. And because they are situated in the ear canal and not simply resting inside the ear lobe, the sound is louder at a lower volume setting on my iPod.
I will use these earbuds for a while longer and then continue my search for ones that are more compatible with me.
Ear Phones April 4, 2010 Stepen B. Hoag (Lincoln, CA (USA)) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although they have only gotten limited use, I like them very much as a back-up.
Great headphones, before they fall apart March 23, 2010 Justin Lipner (Chicago, IL USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These headphones are great, until they break. After a few months, the insulation on the individual ear wires started breaking in places from being bent back and forth, exposing the wires underneath it. I covered it in parts with electrical tape.
The headphone jack has slipped from the rubber tubing around it, making me have to glue it back into place. If I was less patient, they would have gone in the trash. Every time they bend, they are one little bit closer to breaking through their coating, and exposing the wires. Sad, because the headphones are very good otherwise. I had bought three identical pairs of sony earbuds before these, and I thought that after those broke about 1.5 years after I bought them, that these would be better. I was wrong, they were much much worse. I'd never buy headphones from this company again, it seems like they use low-quality parts, and have poor durability.
A+ Product with Shure Foamies February 20, 2010 Working Man (FL, US) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm hard on earphones. I've destroyed Shure E2C's and 110's not to mention many other brands. I was looking for a cheaper product with similar performance. My top criteria are: sound blocking, durability, sound quality, comfort, and value. If you use the orange Shure foamies you won't be able to beat these earbuds (It's a tight fit but it works). You also can't beat the price.
