Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
With a high-grade reputation for fine Stereo headphones, Grado releases a model directly suited to the iPod and other portable Music and Video players. Retaining Grado's traditional Headset appearance instead of the popular earbuds, the iGrado aims for the more discerning individual who appreciates the nuances and qualities found in recorded music. According to Grado, the iGrado uses the same acoustic Drivers as their acclaimed SR-60 headphones which critic hail as the best affordable headphone. So if you're that individual who would go for a more traditional headset over the earbuds, we think you'd really appreciate the better peformance that the iGrado offers.

5 out of 5 stars The best portable phones I've found   July 26, 2010
Sven Lavine (San Francisco)
I've been through a bunch. None of them come close to the iGrados in terms of sound quality. (None of the in-ear phones work for me, so need to go with over the ear models). I use these at the gym, and they stay on well, do OK getting wet from a little sweat (not the case with apple and other ear-buds) and while not the height of headphone fashion, look acceptable in white. Others have complained about the thin cord, but I've been using mine for a year with no issues. My daughter even chewed the cord up pretty badly, and it still works fine. I'd be really surprised if there is anything better for portable use in this price range.

5 out of 5 stars igrado best sounding headphone for under 50.00   June 18, 2010

Being an owner of the sr80 grado i already know the quality of their headphones so i expected great sound and i wasnt disappointed...the headphones simply sound amazing ...period...if you want style or maybe comfort adjustment than these cans may not be for you...i would suggest you buy them from a dealer that can accept a return ...igrados are not for everyone ....just for those who appreciate great sound ....

3 out of 5 stars Consider the SR-60 Instead   June 6, 2010

These are supposed to use the same drivers as the Grado SR-60, and I have both, but side-by-side, the iGrado sounds somewhat weedy and thin. They still sound pretty good for the price, but not as good as other Grado cans. They are also pretty uncomfortable. The plastic behind-the-neck headband is not adjustable and presses into your skull in an awkward way. After using them for several weeks at work, I did adapt to them, but other headphones are just more comfortable. The cord is also thinner and less durable than the SR-60.

The comparison might be unfair - the SR-60 is both legendary and exquisite. But it's only a $20 difference.

They are more portable than other Grados, but they don't fold flat, or collapse like some other portable headphones. They're also cheaper, and even though they don't sound quite as good, they're still a pretty radical upgrade over the ear-buds that came with your iPod.

I would recommend these if:
1) Your headphone budget is $50, and you can't stretch it to $70.
2) The SR-60 is not light and portable enough.
3) You don't care for the retro-space-cadet look of other Grado cans, or just need to get white headphones to match your MP3 player.
4) You have big hair and would benefit from the behind-the-neck design.

Otherwise, the extra $20 for a pair of SR-60s is worth it. A nice pair of headphones will last you many years; getting the right pair is worth a few extra bucks.

3 out of 5 stars Great sound, disposable construction   May 18, 2010

The sound fantastic and they are really comfortable on my ears. However, the connecting wires are so thin, I'm almost afraid to use them on the go. I contacted Grado about this and was assured that the wires were covered under their one year warranty- providing there was no abuse- whatever that means. Buy these for the amazing sound, but not for durability.

5 out of 5 stars Overall...pretty good   May 17, 2010

As others have said, there are problems with these headphones; they are ugly, the cord is really thin and will almost certainly need to be replaced, and every one around you can hear what you are listening to unless they are turned down really low. Also, if they don't fit your head, they won't be very comfortable. When I bought them, I was looking for something to wear biking or walking and to use at school. For biking and walking, they are perfect, they don't block out ambient noise, so you can hear cars approaching and the like; they also fit around my helmet and my glasses. However, they really are too loud to use at school or in a library; even in a coffee shop, people notice them (in a bad way). Not to mention, of course, they look ridiculous and I don't like wearing them on campus just because of that.

I must just be lucky on the fit, I can wear them for 2 hours at a time without much discomfort, and I do have a pretty big head.

The sound is where this annoying pair of headphones with a lot of problems really shines. The lows are very clean and natural. The mids have presence and the highs are clear without ever getting harsh. Everything I have play through the igrados sounds excellent, that includes classical, jazz, hip-hop, indie, rock, and metal. They won't handle bass like a sub will, but I have never found a pair of headphones that can, so it is hard to fault them there.

If the good folks at Grado read these reviews, I would gladly pay a little extra if they weren't so ugly, they had a sturdier cord and were adjustable in some way.
