5 out of 5 stars EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!   August 16, 2010
Lynn I Moore (TRAPPER CREEK, AK, US)
I was looking for headphones that both of us could use on different TV's and that would not lose the sound when you go to the kitchen for a cup of coffee! These are exactly what I was looking for, and the price was right.

5 out of 5 stars Long Time User   August 8, 2010
P. Kennedy (Midway NC)
I PURCHASED THE RF970 A FEW YEARS AGO FROM B&H BECAUSE OF HEARING LOSS AND WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE COMFORT AND SOUND QUALITY. THE ON/OFF HEADBAND BROKE BUT I WAS ABLE TO REPAIR IT WITH MY TRUSTY POP RIVIT TOOL. THE BATTERY LIFE BEGAN TO SHORTEN, SO I TOOK THESE TO MY VACCATION HOME AND STILL USE THEM. I PURCHASED ANOTHER PAIR FOR HOME USE. THE NEW PAIR DID NOT TRANSMIT SO I SENT THEM BACK TO SONY AND RECEIVED I NEW PAIR WHICH WORK GREAT.

THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THAT I HAD TO PAY $14.00 TO HAVE THEM SHIPPED FOR REBAIR, WITH NO REFUND!

1 out of 5 stars Bass = Static, these suck   August 2, 2010
N. Corrieri (USA)
I have tried putting them far far away from my TV, in case something was messing with the signal. There is static for all things bass. 5' away from base, static; 15 ft away from bass.

Maybe it was something in my livingroom?

Wrong, outside in the garage plugged into a radio. Static.

Slow to charge
Awful sound quality

Pure crap. I wish my wife wouldnt have bought me these. Now i cant buy myself ones that will work because it was an Xmas present i took 1-2 months to try :(

1 out of 5 stars Variable Hi-frequency hissing - Don't waste your time or money   July 28, 2010
Kelsey McClanahan (Northeastern, NV United States of America)
These headphones, Sony MDR-RF970R, are horrible. I followed the directions exactly as indicated. I plugged it in and let it charge until the indicator went off (about 17 hours). I made sure no cables were crossed and the transmitter was in a good isolated location. It's all for not as the sound received by the headphones is inconsistently noisy depending on how subtle the sound is and how you hold your head. And yes, I tried all three channels, the auto tuning button, moving the transmitter around -- everything suggested in the manual. These headphones just don't work well.

The sound quality varies inconsistently, and I blame the active filtering built into the headphones. When no music or sound is playing, they are dead silent. Low frequency passes (rumbling, roars, bass drum, thumps, etc...) also contain no hiss. As soon as a high-frequency sound starts to play, the headphones are filled with a high-frequency hissing noise on top of the actual sound. Move around the room and the hiss will increase and decrease. Stand three feet from the transmitter, and the hiss will mostly be gone, until you turn your head and the hiss fades in and out depending on the angle of your head. These headphones are unusable.

It's a shame -- for they're light and very comfortable to wear. The charging mechanism works great too. AND they ingeniously turn themselves on and off simply by wearing them or taking them off your head. But none of it matters for headphones are all about sound, and the sound quality coming out of these headphones is full of hissing and static. The more subtle the passages in the music, the louder the hiss is amplified.

It's says Sony on the package, which is surprising. This is the first Sony product I've purchased (20+ years) that I've ever been unsatisfied with.

5 out of 5 stars A must have   July 26, 2010
D. Gray (Santa Fe, New Mexico)
These headphones are great, I can have peace and quiet in the house and my Mom when she visits can watch her Golf. My husband can stay up wathcing a movie and all is quiet. How did we ever live without these fantastic earphones. Also, you can still hear your program while walking around with the earphones on. This is our second pair. Love them, worth paying a bit extra for these.
